1) Luang Prabang

My first highlight is Luang Prabang.  After leaving Thailand I cross by boat into Laos at Chiang Khong.  I Then take the unconventional route and board a bus to Luang Prabang. I am rewarded with spectacular views of rugged mountainous terrain along the way and arrive in to Luang Prabang, the historic royal city, in the early morning.  Read more…

2) Nong Khiaw

The drive to Nong Khaiw is stunning! Giant craggy crass cliffs soar like monsters looming over the tiny villages nestled at their base.  Nong Khiaw is equally beautiful, nestled at the base of giant mountains on the banks of the muddy waters of the Ou River.  I really want to see the Hundred Waterfalls so after some hard bargaining I decided to joins a day tour for $25 – still a complete rip off but a lot cheaper than the original price. Highlights: the drive to Nong Khaiw, the adventure of hiking Hundred Waterfalls, and trying to get back to Luang Prabang.


3) Vang Vieng Travel from Luang Prabang

I am so happy I did not make the night bus to Vang Vieng as the drive from Luang Prabang to Vang Vieng is one of the most breathtaking drives I have ever experienced.  Dropping out of the higher mountainous elevation brings spectacular views of the valleys below with their dramatic crass cliffs rising out of the flat plains. However, the beautiful views soon take on a different perspective as I discover that I may be stuck in this country for quite sometime – the  search for my passport…  Read more…

4) Tham Kong Lo Cave – Ban Nahin

Tham Kong Lo cave, one of the natural wonders of Southeast Asia, was created by the persistence of the Nam Hin Bun river tunneling 7km through the belly of a mighty Karst mountain.  The most fascinating thing about this cave is that the locals actually use it as the only route of passage to reach their villages on the other side.  Read More…

Crossing the border from Laos to Vietnam
