Travel to Chiang Rai Thailand

After a wonderful couple of weeks in the camps I travel to Chiang Rai ThailandTravel to Chiang Rai, chiang rai thailand, Travel to Chiang Rai Thailand, visit chiang rai

A French girl and I rent a motorbike and have a wonderful day exploring Chiang Rai and the surrounding area.

First we visit Wat Rong Khun (The White Temple).  This temple is unlike any temple I have ever seen. Travel to Chiang Rai, chiang rai thailand, Travel to Chiang Rai Thailand, visit chiang rai

Wat Rong Khun – The White Temple

Like a white, fairy tail palace it stands shimmering as the millions of tiny mirrors, which coat its surface, reflect the suns rays.

It is a new temple with a unique twist –

-faces hanging from trees, hands reaching up out of pools, paintings that at first appeared to be just beautiful works of art…

-on closer look I find superman, Kung Fu panda, Jack Sparrow and many other movie characters.

Khun Gon Waterfall

We then wind our way west up into the mountains to reach Khun Gon Waterfall.

It is a beautiful 1km hike to the falls – a spectacular gush of wildly falling water.

We return via a different route back to Chiang Rai for lunch then venture northwest in search of a Chinese pagoda.Travel to Chiang Rai, chiang rai thailand, Travel to Chiang Rai Thailand, visit chiang rai

Climbing to the top of the pagoda gives a stunning view of the sun sinking into the valleys beyond.

There is a festival of sorts going on that night so we drive to check it out.

It is more like a bizarre and I soon find myself delighting in all the variety of sweet and salty of Thailand’s best street snacks: fruit shakes, sushi rolls, coconut crepes.
